Gold (XAUUSD) remains near an important structural area as markets assess whether the broader advance can continue. Price has returned toward the trendline of its multi-decade ascending channel after moving above this major resistance. At the same time, the Dow-to-Gold ratio remains below a key horizontal level, showing continued strength in gold relative to the Dow. The reaction in both charts could provide important signals for gold’s next major move.
The gold chart below shows price moving within a major ascending channel that has guided price action for several decades. The lower trendline has repeatedly provided support during significant declines, while the upper trendline has acted as a major resistance zone. Gold recently accelerated toward this upper resistance and briefly moved above it before returning toward the channel.

The broader structure remains constructive despite the decline from the latest peak. Gold has moved back toward the upper channel line after briefly advancing beyond this major resistance. At the same time, the chart shows a large triangle pattern within the ascending channel. Gold previously moved above the triangle resistance, adding another important level beneath the current price.
The upper channel line now remains an important area to watch. If gold moves back below this level, the decline could extend toward the former triangle resistance shown by the dashed trendline. However, strength around the current area could limit further downside and support another advance. This would keep gold above the triangle breakout and preserve the broader positive structure.
The chart below shows the Dow versus Gold ratio trading around a major horizontal level that has influenced price action for more than a decade. The ratio remained above this area during much of its previous advance and found support there on several occasions. It later formed two broad rounded peaks, indicating a gradual shift in the structure. The subsequent decline pushed the ratio below this major support, reflecting increasing strength in gold relative to the Dow.

The latest decline pushed the Dow-to-Gold ratio below this major horizontal support and carried it toward a much lower area. The ratio then recovered sharply and returned to test the former support level. However, the recovery lost momentum around this area, and the ratio has since pulled back. This reaction suggests that the former support could now act as resistance. The broader relative structure therefore continues to favor gold over the Dow.
The next move in the ratio will provide another important signal for the gold outlook. Remaining below the major horizontal resistance would indicate that gold continues to outperform the Dow. Another decline from this area could strengthen gold’s relative position against US equities. In contrast, a sustained move above the resistance level would weaken the current setup and signal renewed strength in the Dow relative to gold.
Gold continues to hold near an important structural area after moving above the upper trendline of its multi-decade ascending channel. The latest decline has brought price back toward this former resistance without changing the larger structure. Holding above the channel trendline would keep the broader outlook constructive and support the possibility of another move higher.
At the same time, the Dow-to-Gold ratio remains below a major horizontal level after breaking through an important support area. Its inability to regain this level indicates that gold continues to maintain relative strength against the Dow. Continued weakness in the ratio would provide further confirmation that gold remains stronger than US equities on a relative basis.
These signals keep the broader gold outlook favorable, but both charts now sit near important structural levels. Gold needs to remain above its ascending channel trendline, while the Dow-to-Gold ratio needs to stay below its major resistance area. A positive reaction in gold combined with renewed weakness in the ratio would further support gold’s strength relative to the Dow. However, a move below the channel trendline alongside a recovery in the Dow-to-Gold ratio would weaken the current setup.
