Silver (XAG/USD) remains within a major ascending channel after facing strong resistance at the upper trendline. The latest decline followed a strong advance toward this key resistance area. Price has since attempted to recover, but the upper trendline remains an important barrier. Meanwhile, the silver-to-platinum ratio has pulled back toward its former wedge resistance after a major breakout. The reaction around these important levels could provide clearer direction for silver.
The silver chart below shows a large ascending channel that has shaped price action for more than two decades. Silver has reacted to both trendlines at several important points. The lower trendline has provided major support during periods of weakness, while the upper trendline has acted as resistance during strong advances. Silver reached this resistance multiple times during major rallies and turned sharply lower after each test.

The chart also shows several rounded formations that developed below key resistance. The first structure formed around the 2008 decline before silver broke above resistance and advanced toward the upper channel trendline. A similar pattern later developed between 2021 and 2024. Silver formed several rounded bases beneath resistance before moving above this level. This move then carried price toward the top of the channel.
Silver recently reached the upper trendline again and faced strong resistance near this area. Price turned sharply lower after testing the trendline before rebounding. The latest price action shows silver attempting to recover from this weakness. A stronger recovery could bring the upper trendline back into focus. However, further weakness could extend the decline and keep silver below this resistance.
The chart below shows the silver-to-platinum ratio, which remained within an ascending wedge for many years. The lower trendline provided support during several major declines, while the upper trendline acted as resistance during strong advances. The ratio also formed several rounded bottoms near the rising support line. These formations supported the overall structure, while each upward move reflected stronger silver performance relative to platinum.

The ratio later advanced toward the upper wedge resistance and eventually moved above the trendline. This breakout marked an important shift in the relationship between the two metals and showed stronger silver performance against platinum. The ratio continued higher before forming a rounded top and turning lower. The decline has now brought the ratio back toward the former wedge resistance. This area could provide important support and help determine the next major direction in the silver-to-platinum relationship.
Holding above the former resistance line would keep the breakout structure intact and maintain silver’s relative strength against platinum. A renewed advance could support further gains in the ratio and signal continued silver outperformance. However, a clear move below the broken trendline would weaken the breakout structure and could bring the lower wedge support back into focus.
Silver remains inside its long-term ascending channel after retreating from upper trendline resistance. The latest decline shows that this resistance remains important. Price is now attempting to regain strength after the sharp drop. A stronger recovery could bring the upper trendline back into focus.
At the same time, the silver-to-platinum ratio has returned to a key technical area. The ratio has declined toward the former wedge resistance after its major breakout. Holding above this trendline would keep the breakout structure intact. It would also support silver’s relative strength against platinum.
These developments could help determine the next direction for silver. Silver needs to regain strength after its decline from channel resistance, while the silver-to-platinum ratio must remain above its former wedge resistance. A positive reaction from these areas could support another strong advance. Further weakness could instead increase the risk of a deeper decline.
